This outdoor island scene in Unreal Engine as a portfolio environment study, using a Udemy tutorial as a starting point and then polishing it into a portfolio-ready showcase. I sculpted and painted the terrain with Unreal’s Landscape tools with a reference on the Natural Landscapes of Southern California, dressed the world with the Foliage system (dense pines, flower meadows, and clean sightlines using the FAB Landscape Pro 2.0), and dialed in cinematic lighting with Good Sky for both golden-hour beams and a moody night look. For water, I combined FAB Water Materials with Unreal’s Experimental Water Plugin to create a cohesive river-to-lake flow with believable shorelines—resulting in a readable, atmospheric environment that highlights my worldbuilding workflow and iteration speed.
WORLD

Island Layout Overview- A top-down read of the environment showing landmark placement (mountain ridge and cave), biome distribution, and the river-to-lake path that guides exploration.
LANDSCAPES

River-to-lake landscape shot- I sculpted the terrain with Landscape Pro and built the water system using the Experimental Water Plugin and FAB materials for clean shorelines.

Goldenhour forest scene- I used Good Sky lighting and foliage painting to create warm sun shafts, depth, and clear composition.

Moonlit mountain and Cave- I staged a dramatic cave reveal with strong silhouettes and atmospheric haze for a moody nightscape.
